It’s also helpful to let dogs know they can take as much or as little Reiki as they wish to ensure they know they have a choice as to how much Reiki they receive. If the dog approaches the practitioner and appears to want to be touched, the practitioner can place her hands in a series of positions that are comforting to the dog. You don’t need a timer to let you know when the session is over. Dogs are not bashful about getting up and leaving when they’ve taken in the amount of energy they need.
Growing up in England and living on three continents provided Gillian with an understanding of how traditional, alternative and holistic therapies can work together to help heal the mind, body and spirit of humans and animals. She began her career practicing Reiki on human clients, achieving the level of Reiki Master and receiving Karuna and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) certification. It was several years ago, while practicing in-person Reiki for a human client, she realized her ability to communicate with animals when the client’s dog began to communicate directly with her. Stimulating the muscles and tissues of the body increases circulation and this improved blood flow brings healing. Increased circulation allows more oxygen to reach the tissues and if there are any wounds, inside or outside of the body, this oxygen will promote faster, more comfortable healing. Massage has also been shown to improve range of motion and lower the heart rate. This also relieves muscle spasms and reduces toxic compounds like lactic acid, which cause pain and discomfort.
Reiki energy can be given to your dog in regularly scheduled intervals or as needed. Because it is a gentle and non-invasive energy modality, it can be used safely with any animal no matter the age, size or breed. Recently I provided Reiki for my client’s dog that was suffering from a chronic ear infection. The veterinarian prescribed some ear ointment that needed to be placed in both ears of their dog twice a day for two weeks. This can be a real challenge when a dog is not feeling well and doesn’t want you to touch it, let alone place a greasy ointment in its ears. I provided Reiki for their dog each day in order to support the dog’s physical healing as well as to provide a calming energy for their dog. This allowed their dog to stay calm during each of the twice-daily ointment treatments and their dog accepted them doing the treatments by lying still during these times.
While it’s sometimes difficult to communicate within our own species, this client was hitting a wall when it came to understanding what her dog and cat were trying to tell her. “Gillian is great and really knows how to connect to my loves!! She hit it right on the nail how my dog Roxie and cat Gracie interact with each other, and told me things that just confirmed how I read my own animals. It really is great to hear what your animals have to say. Next time I am lost with what they need or want, I will definitely reach out to her for a reading.” Source: https://fourpawsholistictherapy.com/.
